Transgender Presentation and TransAmerica film. 7 pm in JFK Auditorium at the Eastern Washington University campus in Cheney.
Alexander Pangborn, a prominent member of the Transgender community, will present on issues facing transgendered college students today and on his own experiences in transitioning from female to male.
The event will be followed by a brief discussion and a screening of the film,Transamerica. This remarkable story details the life of a fictional pre-operative named Bree, who is making the transition from male to female. An unexpected twist in her story comes when her long-lost son contacts her and tries to develop a relationship. This is a heart-felt story of family, gender and expectations.

3rd Annual Heritage Pride Institute
OutSpokane's Heritage Pride Institute's honoree for 2008 is Steven Barrios (Long Time Holy Rain), a Twospirit, Native American community activist and HIV/AIDS educator who lives on the Blackfeet reservation in Browning, Montana.
He has been a strong organizer and facilitator of annual two-spirit gatherings held locally, regionally and nationally. These provide safe space for spiritual expression, healing, learning and fun. They instill pride in attendees in much the same way as the Heritage Pride Institute endeavors to enhance the dignity and self-respect of Spokane Pride participants.

This year, four Grand Marshals will be honored in the 2008 Pride Parade:

  • Our first Corporate Grand Marshal will be Northern Quest Casino/Kalispel Tribe in honor of the amazing support they have afforded to out GLBTQA community and the community at large.
  • The Heritage Pride Grand Marshal will be Steven Barrios (Long Time Holy Rain) from the Blackfeet Tribe in Montana.
  • The Community Hero Grand Marshal will be Kevan Gardner who will perform as "Auntie Bijou" onstage at the Rainbow Festival.
  • The Youth Grand Marshal will be shared by Aurora MacDonald
    and Kevin Johnson.

Gather on the pedestrian walk on Wall Street between Main Avenue and Spokane Falls Blvd.(see route)

Rainbow Festival Noon to 5:30 pm
Master of Ceremony, Christopher Lawrence will be leading the way in the park as we celebrate 17 years of PRIDE! in Spokane. This year the theme is "Two Spirits, One Community" and we would love to see you and your family there.
The Rainbow Festival will showcase more entertainment, activities and prizes than ever before and will have several favorites like the Annual Wedding Ceremony and honoring of graduating seniors, a couple of new features for your enjoyment, as well as, the very popular Baking Contest and the Flower Design Competition. Live stage entertainment will include:

  • "Auntie Bijou" (Community Hero Grand Marshal, Kevin Gardner) will perform and the entertainment will be continuous throughout the afternoon until 5:30 pm.
  • Eric Himan will be our featured Rainbow Festival headliner, a singer/songwriter who was recently nominated for the "Brink of Fame: Music Artist" award for the NewNowNext Awards on Logo in June.

The Family Play Area will have educational and fun games from Mobius Kids and Chum Chum Game Company, booths, inflatable bounce-around toys and much more. Please come and enjoy the entire afternoon with us.
